Vintage At Make My Monday. . . .

This week, Make My Monday are continuing with their French theme but we are asked to make a Vintage French themed project. I'm honoured to be the Guest Designer here for the month of October and would like to thank people for visiting me from the blog on my debut last week - your comments and support are much appreciated.

I love the distressed look of vintage with curled edges, dark, inky areas and dreamy, feminine images - that's my take on vintage anyway!

Here's the card I made using an old internet image printed onto canvas - I was so pleased when it didn't jam my printer!

I kept my colours feminine but strong and used a beautiful vintage image from the internet. The parfumerie label was from the same source.
The image printed with gorgeous soft hues and originally, I was going to pick out the colour of her hair band but after several attempts, I failed to reproduce it so decided to tone in with the shades in the dress.
The lace was inked to give it a slightly shabby look and some of the corners of the image were curled for the same reason.

A dreamy vintage label which was printed and a little antique linen and walnut stain distress ink was added to complete the look.

I added the word 'Parfum' in die cut letters to fit the theme and used aged mahongany distress ink to tone with the colours chosen. You can also the layer of vintage text peeking out which was added for interest and depth. The edges were inked with walnut stain distress but the main body of the piece did not need ink due to the aged appearance of the original page.

I dyed some seam binding to tone and added a heart charm which was aged with Duncan EZ (an underglaze used in ceramics which is water soluble and great for aging things. It needs to be sealed with a matte sealant for prolonged life though).
The patterned layer is a background stamp which was stamped in plum archival and then antique linen and walnut stain distress inks completed the look. To finish the card I used two layers of distressed card and a layer of TH paper in a matching tone. A beaded pin completed the look.

Hope you like my vintage card. I really enjoyed playing with my favourite colours again and making an unashamedly feminine project.

  13. What a beautiful card Julia, I love it. I love the Vintage look but I couldn't say that I 'get it' as the colours tend to be quite pale, you have taken it to another level with the depth of colour you have chosen and have achieved a gorgeous rich finish, my kind of vintage if I was brave enough to have a go lol. Thank-you for the inspiration.
    Huge hugs x x x x

  14. A stunning piece, Julia - with such richness, texture and those wonderfully atmospheric deep colours. The image on canvas looks gorgeous - I've been looking at some canvas printer paper in the local cheapy shop, and I may now take the plunge!

    1. Hi Buttons, it was actually the sticky back canvas from Ranger that I put through the printer! I was shocked that it worked as I only have an Inkjet printer but it seems to be smudge proof too! xx
